Gas and electricity customers feel that green issues are increasingly important to them, according to new research by EDF Energy.
The energy provider's latest study found that new year resolutions about becoming eco-friendly are the third most popular this year, while also being twice as popular as promises to give up alcohol.
In addition, the findings revealed that 60 per cent of those asked are planning to ensure they turn off lights in rooms not being used, while around half plan to install energy-saving lightbulbs.
Discussing the research, EDF Energy's chief operating officer, Eva Eisenschimmel, said: "Our research shows that green issues are much more front of mind for many as we move into 2008, with people keen to reduce the impact their actions have on the environment."
The same study also found that people in the UK think Al Gore, Jamie Oliver and, rather surprisingly, Kermit the Frog are the most inspirational 'green' celebrities for them to look up to.
